About me

Alison Ingram BA(Hons) SAA

Painter

Alison has been developing her distinctive style for 20 years. She is well known for her unique interpretation of wildlife, using colour, light and design to create lively contemporary paintings. Her passion for wildlife and the countryside is reflected in her work and shows her understanding of animal and bird behaviour, and their interaction with the environment.

Originally a traditional wildlife artist, Alison had a change of direction in 1999 moving to a more experimental abstract style of working. Alison won First Prize in the Experimental/Abstract category of The Artist 2000 Celebration Competition, with her first abstract painting ‘Puffin Paradise’. Since then she has developed her very distinctive style.

Alison is a founding member of Horsham Artists having opened her home for the first time for a Christmas Open Studio in 2003.

Alison’s BA(Hons) is in Archaeology, she concentrated on archaeological illustration and attended digs in Italy and Israel working as an illustrator. She then decided to concentrate on painting and the wildlife that she loves.

Alison’s painting of ‘Swifts and Swallows’ was featured on the front cover of The Artist magazine in 2014 and has been extensively used by swift conservation groups in the UK and Europe, to advertise their vital work. Alison is a keen supporter of swift conservation and is a carer for young swifts, swallows and house martins during the summer months.

In 2014 Alison became a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists. The society is based in the United States and is the world’s premier organisation for wildlife artists. Signature members are entitled to all benefits of the society and produce the best animal art in the world. Membership is by selection.
Alison has been a regular exhibitor with the society since 2014 and each time her paintings have been chosen for the National Museum Tour and have been shown all over the US.

Alison is a regular and very popular Artist in Residence at Nature in Art near Gloucester, the only museum and art gallery dedicated to nature in art. The Museum own one of Alison’s paintings along with Horsham Museum who own ‘Stag and Swallows’. She regularly enters paintings into the DSWF Artist of the Year competition and always has work selected for exhibition in the Mall Galleries. Alison often exhibits at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and attends Birdfair in Rutland every August.
