About the Artist
Jo Willis is an oil painter, based near Horsham, West Sussex. She has exhibited widely across the south of England as well as locally. Influenced by David Hockney and the impressionists, her contemporary life studies exhibit a graphic quality, focusing on tone and composition, often painted with a limited colour palette. Many of her life studies are of groups of people engaging in every day activities. Her landscapes exhibit fresh, glowing colours and a subtle use of light and shade, whether the subject is a panoramic view across the South Downs or a grove of silver birches in the pale winter sun.
Jo often draws on her iPad - today's equivalent of the sketchbook - she can draw wherever she is, on a train, in a café, or at home on the sofa with her scruffy cat.
