About the Artist
Tail End Art
I love designing and creating in many forms, using different art and craft techniques and materials depending on my mood or inspiration.
I primarily work with ceramic as it is a very flexible medium and I can incorporate other art forms such as painting and mosaic, and use natural and found objects, so it is the medium I turn to most, primarily earthenware ceramic with some Raku.
My artwork often reflects my personal interests in nature and animals. My dog Honey - the muse for Tail End Art logo, and I walked daily in local woodland where I log phenology recordings for The Woodlands Trust watching the seasons change. At 15 ¾ years I lost Honey in January, I hope to have a new ‘muse’ to walk with once Covid is under control. I also enjoy my garden, chickens and garden birds.
In 2009 I fulfilled a long term ambition of owning my own kiln and creating ceramics. I bought a very elderly small electric kiln on ebay (4th hand – which I still use), I took a day and a two day course at West Dean College to understand the basics and got started. I have not been formally trained but I am constantly experimenting, developing and learning and hopefully improving. I am currently developing new skills in enamelling, and creating mosaic with my own ceramics.
I also have had the pleasure to study Enamel Painting with Gillie Hoyte – Byrom. It is a medium I hope to use more of as I develop my miniature painting technique, which is more reliably captured working enamel on metal than I have found using underglaze painting on earthenware ceramic.
I have always been a person who repairs, renovates and re-cycles and have recently discovered the enjoyment in up-cycling in art and I hope to do more of this sort of work in the future, where the piece to up-cycle inspires the decoration and refurbishment.
I enjoy commissioned work, to make that special personal item for a client, whether it be a pet portrait or sculpture, a horseshoe for weddings or plaques for christening, memorial or house, or something completely different. Commissions very welcome.
I give a select few 1-1 (or 2) Art & Craft workshops in my home for adults and/or children. I can plan content or can work with you on a project you would like to do. I am DBS checked and insured. Contact me if interested to discuss your requirements.
In 2019 I was one of 26 artists who each designed and decorated a very large fibre-glass heart for St. Catherine’s Hospice ‘HeArt to Heart’ Appeal as part of their HeArt Trail Uk, this has been my largest project to date. I created my design ‘Heartfelt, You touched my heart’ to be worked as a community project where each individual who took part 'donated' a 'touch' finger mark on a clay heart.
I am pleased to report the fundraising was very successful raising over £190,000. The sale at auction of ‘Heartfelt – You touched my heart’ and a series of 20 heart shape ceramic and watercolour pictures, and Heart and Forget-Me-Not jewellery I created, helped towards this total.
