I took up Silversmithing after retirement some 15 years ago, having come from a background of teaching Design and Technology in Textiles, but mostly Resistant Materials; so the transition into working with silver and gold, was a natural one, although there was still a great deal to learn. Thankfully, I was able to spend many years, having weekly lessons with a superbly accomplished and successful metalsmith. Having caught ‘the bug’, my husband and I built a studio, where I am able to work in a lovely warm and purpose built environment.
I am particularly inspired by organic form, and hence asymmetry and texture play a part in many of my designs. I also love colour, so the incorporation of gems, both precious and semi-precious, is essential. However, enamelling also offers the opportunity to apply larger areas of colour on some of my work.
All my work is validated and hallmarked by the London Assay Office, and I take care never to make two pieces identical, so every item is more or less unique. I take commissions and also re-model old jewellery. So if you have items of jewellery sitting in your drawer, that you have been left, or no longer use, why not consider alternative and updated designs to discuss with me.
