We have normally run two main events – the Art Trail and the October Fair. However, the COVID pandemic has had an impact upon that programme.
Our Art Trail usually takes place in June. Members open their studio spaces either on their own or with other invited members to exhibit their work over two consecutive week-ends. This provides members of the local community with an opportunity to meet a range of artists and makers to talk about and buy their work. In some instances, a member may choose to demonstrate and describe their process to visitors.
Our Art Fair has traditionally taken place in October in the conference rooms of the Local Government offices in Chart Way, Horsham. This has always been a highly prestigious event involving the use of professionally-installed display boards. The COVID pandemic has caused us to suspend this event over the last two years. However, there are plans to stage the event in October 2022.There has been a registration fee that covers marketing and other costs.
The suspension of the Fair led us in 2021 to begin to plan a range of smaller-scale events. Details of these will appear under the Events tab on the Horsham Artists website and our social media platforms.
There is a registration fee to cover marketing and other costs for all events.
Conditions of Participation
It is important to note that part of the application process to participate in a HA exhibition/event/trail or fair will involve the member in agreeing to enact a specific task related to the organisation and running of that event.
A list of tasks will appear as part of the application process and, through discussion with the organising team, the applicant will have a role assigned to them.
As such, Horsham Artists does not involve itself in asking members to volunteer. Enacting a role is seen as part of the participation process. There will be opportunities for volunteers to contribute where they may be Horsham Artists members not participating in the event but who are willing to support it or where they are friends or family of participants.
So important do we see the need to support each other, we have decided to operate a system whereby any member failing to enact their designated role will be prevented from participating in future exhibitions/fairs/markets for one year.
